So I made the cake you see below for Double D to take into work with him for EMS Week. I wanted to do this to show MY appreciation for all that he and his co-workers do for the public. I wasn't asking for anything in return, other than for them to know that what they do is appreciated.
Instead, what I received was criticism for the cake!! One person said it was the worst cake she had ever had!! and that it was dry (which it isn't). and no one ate hardly any of it until very much later in the day!.
I feel hurt because I took the time to make the cake and decorate it, in between working a full time job and my usual tasks at home, and it seemed like it wasn't even appreciated. Yet, that is one complaint that the EMS crews bitch about....that they are never shown appreciation for what they do.
Needless to say, I won't be making a cake for next year.
The cake you made was greatly appreciated. I'm sorry for the actions of some employees. I know that a great deal of effort was put into your cake. No one wanted to cut it because it looked so pretty!!! I can't put into words how appreciated you are. Your husband talks about you and your support all the time. I wish we all had a support group like you. Please don't let a few grouchy EMTs get you down. Your cake was delicious and I can't tell you how much it actually meant to get something for EMS week other than a useless pen or disgusting sandwiches. I read your blog all the time and love it. THANK YOU for all that you do!!

Double D tried telling me that other people liked it, and by the end of the day it was gone, but of course, I just figured he was trying to make me feel better about it since he knew I was upset about what one person had said, so I didn't believe him lol. Thank You for reassuring what he had told me.
